Because preparedness is the key to survival in major disasters, SM Valenzuela along with SM Supermalls in Metro Manila announced its participation and support on MMDA’s “Metro Manila Shake Drill”.
Set on July 30 at 10:30 to 11:00 am, the drill will deal with 6.9 and 7.2 magnitude earthquake scenarios, the expected magnitudes from the East Valley and the West Valley faults, respectively.
Shoppers, employees, and tenants were advised of the mock drill weeks before the activity to ensure the welfare of each participant. Strong siren, signaling everyone to “duck, cover and hold”, and actual earthquake, evacuation, as well as rescue drill simulation will be staged to increase and strengthen mall’s Emergency Response Group (ERG) preparedness, response capabilities, and coordination among tasked units.
SM Valenzuela likewise conducted refresher course on its employees and affiliates on earthquake preparedness. Topics like earthquake worst case scenarios, fire disasters, evacuation route, and first aid treatment were taken to build capacity and contingency plans in meeting the realities that 6.9 or 7.2 magnitude quake will present when it strikes.
